A first-time elected official, Darrel worked as a Controller for over 20 years. He holds a B.A. in Accounting and Finance from Augustana College. Darrel and his wife Kathy reside in Wheeling; they have been married for 30 years and have three adult daughters. The Talkens are members of the St Alphonsus Liguori Parish, where Darrel serves as an usher and chairperson for their annual Oktoberfest. He is also a 4^th
                                    degree Knight in the St Alphonsus Knights of Columbus.
